In this assignment I implemented basic transmission in the left sphere. I did not attempt the extra credit for this assignment. The basic transmission image is below, with the right sphere still being reflected. I stuck with the one light from assignment 5 but lowered it to avoid a black underside of the front sphere. Using a refraction value of 1.8 generated the below image:
I experimented with lowering the refractive index to 1.2 get the below image:
I moved the front sphere further back and increased its size, also moving the light back to the previous area. I finally lowered the refraction index all the way down to 1.03. This was to create an image more like the original Whitted image, and the below was generated. The shadows are still fully dark since I am only using one light in these scenes.
