In this assignment I implemented tone reproduction on my reproduction of the Whitted image. I implemented the adaptive tone reproduction for this advanced checkpoint. I first present the perceptual (Ward Tone Reproduction) images for low, mid, and high level lighting below with no tone reproduction.
Next is the adaptive tone reproduction operator. I will present this in the same order: starting with the low lighting situation, then the mid-level lighting, and finally the high level lighting. The most interesting thing for me with the adaptive tone reproduction is how much more saturated with color the back of the image is compared to the front of it. I think this is because of how much more overall luminance there is at the front of the image versus the back and that the adaptive tone reproduction is getting rid of some of that color near the front while not affecting it as much in the back. With the high luminance scene, this effect does not exist, maybe due to the fact that the whole image is over-illuminated.
