Global Illumination Project Proposal

I will be working on this project by myself.

My goal with this project will be creating a realistic visualization of ice such as that in a hockey rink and showing the difference in properties and appearance of that ice when it is subjected to different factors. The changes that are made to the ice could be due to skates or sunlight exposure and there would be ray tracing on the ice from the sunlight as well. The skates would create scratches and potentially change the shape of the ice by making a divot. They would also add some snow onto the ice. These scratches would make the ice act more opaque over time. I would want some other object to be underneath the ice to be able to demonstrate the visual effects of what happens when the wear on the ice changes. This project could either be an extension to the ray tracer where I create a new ice model or I could gain more exposure in unreal by using their built in raytracing. This is very general right now as I need to look more into papers and projects that have done similar things.

Final Materials

This render doesn’t show the ice block being raised after cut but is the best I have for the actual cutting process
This render shows cutting very quickly and shows the raising of the block in action. It’s just short and has no snow falling
